Lady Bulldogs return one starter
By LARRY LEEDS, Sports Editor

The Madison Lady Bulldogs return just one starter from last year's team that went 3-18 a year ago. Madison Nipe is the only starter returning for Coach Adam Ericsson.

Nipe, a sophomore, averaged 3 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals per game last season.

Other players who are returning who have seen some varsity action include seniors Jessica Neises and Kara Seitz, junior Marinda Kern and sophomore Roz VandenBosch.

Other players who will be vying for playing time are sophomores Danielle Roemen and Morgan Skluzacek.

"We will be a pretty young team," said Ericsson, who added that he has seen a lot of improvement over last year.

"They played in a lot of team camps and summer leagues," he said. "They have come into the season knowing more of my system this year."

Ericsson is hoping all of the hours the girls put in over the summer will pay off this winter.

The strength of the Lady Bulldogs will be young legs and good athletes.

"We have young legs with a lot of speed and really good athletes," Ericsson said.

To turn around the season, the Lady Bulldogs will have to do the little things.

"We will have to do the little things such as work hard and take care of the basketball," he said.

Ericsson's main concerns are free throw shooting and turnovers.

"We cannot turn the ball over," he said.

The Lady Bulldogs lost five players due to graduation: Chloe Nordling, Bailey Milne, Holly Fiegen, Abby Andresen and Ashley Currey.

The Lady Bulldogs will open the season on Tuesday at Tri-Valley.

"They are 2-0 for the season and the Mustangs will be a good test for us," he said. "They will try to force us into turnovers."

Assisting Ericsson are Maxine Unterbrunner and Lindsey Dietterle.
