| Basketball teams ready to do battle at Entringer Classic |

Area teams are scheduled for the 19th annual Boys' Michael J. Entringer Scholarship Classic, which will be held on Saturday at the Brookings High School Main Gym and Auxiliary Gym.
Chester has a 3-2 overall record while the Warriors have a 3-1 mark. Both teams have a game on Friday night before they battle in Brookings. The boys' games will begin at 1 p.m. in the Auxilliary Gym. DeSmet will take on Oldham-Ramona-Rutland at 2:45 p.m., followed by the Colman-Egan vs. Hamlin contest at 4:30 p.m. In the Main Gym, Chester will face Lake Preston at the 1:30 p.m. game while Madison will battle Castlewood at 3:15 p.m. Oldham-Ramona-Rutland (2-3, not counting the Hamlin game) will face Dakota Valley Conference foe DeSmet (2-3 overall). O-R-R hit 78 points earlier this season in a win over the Freeman Academy Bobcats. Colman-Egan (1-4 overall) will be matched up against Class A Hamlin (1-2). Colman-Egan's lone victory was against DeSmet. Chester (1-4 overall) won its last game against Lake County rival Oldham-Ramona-Rutland. With the win, Chester moved up to the number one spot in the District 4B seeding. Madison (3-0) is facing a solid Class B team in the Castlewood Warriors. The Warriors are (1-3) and have lost to three very good Class A teams: Deuel, Elkton-Lake Benton and Flandreau. Grant Fodness (7.3 ppg and 2.6 rpg) and Lucas Ching (12 ppg and 7.8 rpg) are the top returnees for the Warriors. Other players to watch include Gunnar Johnson and Adam Ching. Madison Coach Mike Ricke believes that the Bulldogs will see some type of zone defense from Castlewood. "They have some very good players," Ricke said. He believes that the Warriors' guards might struggle against the Bulldogs. Madison last played on Dec. 18 at home against the Harrisburg Tigers. Ricke believes the Bulldogs are 100 percent healthy and there will be no "rust." Three individuals have been added to the Michael J. Entringer Classic Hall of Fame. The latest inductees are the late Lorin Larsen, Madison; Les Hildebrandt, Colman; and Rodney Olson, Lake Preston. Hildebrandt received his award at the Girls' Entringer Scholarship Classic in Flandreau. Larsen's family will be on hand to receive his award on Saturday. Larsen officiated high school football and basketball from 1985 until he died in a hunting accident on Oct. 13. Throughout his 27 years as a referee, he mentored several young officials in the state. As a football referee, Larsen officiated the state championship games in 2001 and '09, in addition to countless playoff games and regular season games in classes 9B through 11A. He worked in basketball every year and did several district and region tournaments. Larsen graduated from Hurley High School and Dakota State University and holds records in track at both schools. Larsen served as station manager for KJAM Radio and account executive for WNAX. Larsen had three daughters and one son. Over the last 18 years, $486,000 scholarships have been awarded from the Entringer Classic to area seniors heading to college. Admission charge for the entire day is $6 per adult and $4 per student.
