| DSU stumbles twice at Morningside Holiday Classic |

Dakota State University suffered its second straight defeat to Morningside 65-53 during the two-day Morningside Holiday Classic on Saturday.
Morningside enjoyed a 28-20 halftime advantage. Both teams struggled from the field in the first half, shooting below 40 percent. Morningside shot 38.5 percent (10 of 26). The Mustangs drained six 3-pointers in 17 attempts (35.3 percent). The Trojans were 7-for-22 from the field (31.8 percent) and 2-of-6 beyond the 3-point arc (33.3 percent). Morningside never trailed in the first half. DSU could get no closer than three points (30-27). The Mustangs outscored DSU 37-33 in the second half. Morningside shot 58.3 percent from the field (14 of 24) in the second half compared to DSU's 54.2 percent (13 of 24). Tyrone Gordon, Jr. scored 18 points for the Trojans. He made 7-of-11 field goals, produced a game-high eight assists and pulled down six rebounds. DSU's John Lamb added 14 points and snared seven rebounds. Cameron Krump chipped in with eight counters. Danny Rudeen scored 16 points for Morningside. Ryan Stand added nine points and nine rebounds while Tanner Miller dished out five assists. Morningside shot 48 percent overall from the field (24 of 50). The Mustangs made nine 3-pointers in 25 attempts (37.5 percent). DSU shot 43.5 percent from the field (20 0f 46), including 6-for-16 from 3-point range. The Mustangs made 8-of-12 from the free throw line (66.7 percent). DSU made 7-of-15 (46.7 percent). Morningside outrebounded the Trojans 33-26. Briar Cliff 75, DSU 59 Briar Cliff used a huge second half to down DSU 75-59 in the first game of the Morningside Holiday Classic on Friday. The Chargers outscored the Trojans 52-31 in the second half to gain the victory. The Trojans raced to an 8-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game and maintained the lead for a 28-23 halftime advantage. The Chargers earned their first lead of the game, 35-34, in the third quarter. Tied at 35-35, Briar Cliff outscored the Trojans 32-9 to grab a 67-44 lead with 6:27 left in the contest. Briar Cliff drained 12 3-pointers in the second half compared to DSU's two 3-pointers. The Chargers were 19 of 28 from the field (67.9 percent) and 12 of 17 from beyond the 3-point arc (70.6 percent). DSU shot 35.5 percent from the field (12 of 34). Gordon, Jr. led the Trojans with 11 points. He had two assists and steals. Lamb and Yusuf Vinson each added 10 points. Kevin Danielsen scored seven points off the bench. Vinson grabbed seven rebounds and stole the ball three times. Taylor Murren shot 10 of 15 including 9-of-14 from 3-point range and poured in 29 points to pace Briar Cliff. Jake Shipley added 13 points. Clay Harreld and Zach Otting each head 11 points. Otting dished out four assists. Ricky Torres recorded nine rebounds for the Chargers. Briar Cliff shot 53.8 percent overall from the field (28 of 52). The Chargers were 16 of 29 (55.2 percent from 3-point range. The Trojans shot 24 of 59 from the field (40.7 percent) and 5-of-18 from the 3-point arc (60 percent). The Chargers outrebounded DSU 35-28. DSU (9-4 overall) has a two-game home stand starting on Saturday against Midland, Neb., at 6 p.m. at the DSU Fieldhouse.
