DeSmet uses big fourth quarter to down Howard

The DeSmet Bulldogs outscored Howard 17-5 in the final period and earned a 51-43 non-conference victory on Tuesday at DeSmet. Howard held a 30-25 halftime lead and a 38-34 lead after three quarters. The Tigers made just 15 of 44 field goals (34 percent) and 9-of-15 free throws (35 percent). DeSmet made 20 of 51 field goals (39 percent) and 8-of-18 free throws (4 percent). Howard held the rebounding edge 30-29. Cole Potter scored 13 points to lead the Tigers. Steve Larsen added 12 points while Landon Laible chipped in with 10 counters. Andrew Schwader pulled down nine rebounds for the Tigers. Brad Penney tossed in 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds to pace the Bulldogs. Austin Janssen added 13 counters and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Howard (2-7 overall) will host Hanson on Tuesday at 6:15 p.m.
