01/16/2013 Lady Bulldogs use huge second half, down FIS 62-37 By LARRY LEEDS, Sports Editor The Madison Lady Bulldogs broke open a close game in the second half and rolled to a 62-37 win over the Flandreau Indian School on Tuesday at Flandreau. The game was tied at 15-15 at halftime before the Lady Bulldogs exploded for 47 points in the second half and gained their third straight win. "Scoring 47 points in the second half was great for us," said Madison Coach Adam Ericsson. "We were just attacking the basket, which was great to see." Madison was playing shorthanded; due to injuries and sickness, they were without Kara Seitz and Morgan Skluzacek. "We came out like a dud in the first half," Ericsson said. "Our game plan wasn't working due to poor execution and lack of energy." Madison made 24 of 67 field goals, 35 percent, and connected on 11 of 27 free throws, 40 percent. FIS made 15 of 55 field goals, 27 percent, and hit 6-of-14 free throws, 42 percent. FIS held the advantage on the boards 36-27. Madison Nipe poured in 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Danielle Roemen tossed in 15 counters and dished out six assists. Marinda Kern chipped in with 14 points. Shoshone Jorgonsen scored 13 points and snared seven rebounds for FIS. Verlinda Hill added 10 points. "At half, we challenged the girls to come out and establish themselves at the defensive end. They did that," Ericsson said. Madison (3-7) will be seeking its fourth win of the season on Friday night at Sioux Falls, when the Lady Bulldogs visit Sioux Falls Christian in a non-conference battle. Tipoff for the game is set for 7:45 p.m. JVs roll to win Madison's junior varsity team rolled to a 45-18 win over the Flandreau Indian School on Tuesday. Sabrina Bloom led the way for Madison by scoring 12 points and ripping down 12 rebounds. Brenna Johnson and Michaela Duff each added nine counters for the winners. Johnson pulled down seven rebounds.
