The Madison Bulldogs built a 36-19 halftime lead and went on to down the Harrisburg Tigers 72-59 in a Big 8 Conference clash on Tuesday night at Harrisburg. Madison jumped out to a 23-8 first-quarter lead and stretched the lead to 17 at halftime. "We started the game strong and were able to build an early lead by playing solid defense and running the floor in transition," said Madison Coach Michael Ricke. Harrisburg made a run in the third period by outscoring the Bulldogs 20-13, but still trailed 49-39 entering the final eight minutes. "It was nice to have that nice lead at halftime because Harrisburg shot the ball extremely well in the second half (12 of 23 field goals and 12 of 13 free throws)," Ricke said. "They got the lead cut down to eight a couple of different times in the second half, but we were always able to answer their runs with a small run of our own." Madison made 24 of 52 field goals, 46 percent, and 16 of 24 free throws, 66 percent. Harrisburg made 17 of 45 field goals, 37 percent, and drained 18 of 21 free throws, 85 percent. The Bulldogs held the advantage on the boards 33-22. Preston Nordling tossed in 15 points to lead the Bulldogs. "Preston really played well tonight," Ricke said. "He sparked the team with his defensive energy, and he got us some huge buckets, especially in the second half when Harrisburg was making their run." Jesse Brown scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Mason Sullivan added 12 counters. Rush Milne pulled down six rebounds for the Bulldogs. "Rush stepped into the starting lineup in Tyler Wiebe's place and played a solid game," said Ricke. "He finished the game with seven points and six rebounds. He also did a good job for us defensivley -- especially in the second half when Jesse Brown was in foul trouble." Alex Jacobsen scored 14 points to pace the Tigers. Andrew McCuen added 11 counters while Christian Trainor and Taylor Nichols each chipped in with 10 points. Nichols had eight rebounds. Madison (10-1 overall and 4-0 in Big 8 play) will swing back into action on Tuesday at Lennox. Tipoff is set for 7:45 p.m. JVs add lopsided win Madison's junior varsity team rolled to an easy 45-29 win over Harrisburg. Tayler Anderson scored nine points and pulled down six rebounds to pace the Bulldogs. Hunter Robson added seven points, grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and had a team-high four steals. Jacob Leighton chipped in with six points, six rebounds and a team-high five assists. Danny Klosterman scored six points for the winners. Brodie Frederiksen and Braydon Gilbert each scored seven points. "This was a very hard-fought game," said Coach Mike Materese. "We were always ahead, but Harrisburg wouldn't go away. We had some clutch free throw shooting by Taner DenHoed and Brady Balogh in the final minute to seal the win for us."
