Women's 3200-meter relay team breaks school record

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- The Dakota State University women's 3200-meter relay team broke the school record on the second day of the Sioux City Relays on Saturday.|
Stephanie Uher, Kayla Sveen, Victoria Sopko and Stephanie Warnke teamed up to place second in the 3200-meter relay with a time of 9:44.43. The foursome broke the old record of 9:48.44 set by Katherine Fisk, Summer Stulken, Marie Parker and Amy Hansen in 1997.
Summer Bronson finished eighth in the women's 400-meter hurdle race in 1:07.89.
The DSU women's 1600-meter relay team of Sveen, Bronson, Warnke and Uher placed ninth in 4:14.33.
Seth Boomsma won the men's 100-meter dash for the second straight week. He crossed the finish line in 10.77 seconds just ahead of teammate D'Artist Williams, who ran an 11.03.
DSU's Stacey Berg placed 10th in the 100-meter dash in 11.44 seconds.
DSU's 400-meter relay team of Williams, Berg, Mark Moeller and Boomsma placed second in 42.07 seconds, just .04 second behind the first-place team from NCAA Div. I University of South Dakota (42.03 seconds).
The Trojan men's 1600-meter relay team of Justin Templeton, Gabe Samuelson, Jared Truman and Jared Sutton finished seventh in 3:50.40.
Ryan Gimbel placed seventh in the men's shot put with a toss of 42-feet-9.
During Friday's competition, Nic Penning won the men's 10,000-meter race and Andy Coy qualified for the NAIA Nationals in the men's 800-meter run.
Penning finished the 10,000-meter race in 32:38.75.
Coy, a seven-time NAIA All-American, was second in the men's 800-meter with an automatic qualifying time of 1:54.04. He will be making his fourth straight NAIA Outdoor Track and Field national meet appearance.
Gimbel placed fourth in the men's weight throw with a measurement of 138-feet-1. His throw is the second best in DSU history. Trevor Van Tillburg was ninth in the weight throw with a throw of 117-feet-7.
Uher finished third in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.48 while Sopko was ninth in 1:05.88.
In the women's 800-meter run, Warnke finished seventh in 2:26.49. Sveen was 10th in 2:28.88.
Ashley Currey placed ninth in the women's weight throw with a measurement of 107-feet-4.
Schools from NCAA Div. I and II along with NAIA competed in the Sioux City Relays.
The Trojans go to Orange City, Iowa, this weekend for the Red Raider Invitational hosted by Northwestern College.
