S.D. High School Basketball Hall of Fame moves to Sioux Falls

The small area at The Community Center where the South Dakota High School Basketball Hall of Fame (SDHSBHOF) was located is now empty. Most of the memorabilia and artifacts are at the new location at the Pentagon in the Sanford Sports Complex in Sioux Falls.|
The area in The Community Center has housed the SDBHOF for about three years.
"It was a wonderful location for us to get started," said Excutive Director Myron Moen. "We have been very appreciative of how Madison has supported us over the years."
With the SDHSBHOF getting more artifacts each year, the area at The Community Center was unable to hold everything.
"We were running out of room here," Moen said. "Security was another reason for the move. Everything will be behind glass at the Pentagon."
The SDHSBHOF will be open seven days a week at the Pentagon.
Everything will be arranged by a curator and every so often things will be changed in the display cases and hung up at the Pentagon, according to Moen.
The mission of the SDHSBHOF is to preserve and record the history of South Dakota high school basketball.
All of the memorabilia will not be housed at the Pentagon. Some things will be displayed on the SDHSBHOF bus, which will be used like a traveling hall of fame, according to Moen.
Moen believes there will be an open house on Oct. 12 at the Pentagon, but the date is not etched in stone.
"They expect over 500,000 visitors in the first year," Moen said.
The Hall of Fame banquet will be at the Ramkota Inn in Sioux Falls next year.
"We will be completely out of The Community Center by Sept. 1," Moen. "The Community Center worked out just fine for us."
