New volleyball coach to guide Lady Raiders in '13

The Oldham-Ramona-Rutland Lady Raiders volleyball team will be under the guidance of first-year head coach Katie Jeratowski in 2013.|
Jeratowski greeted 17 freshmen through seniors who are vying for a spot on the varsity team.
Key players returning to the Lady Raiders include seniors Kelsie Casanova (outside hitter), Haley Hopf (middle hitter) and Macy Hagemann (setter), along with freshman Joie Spier (middle hitter).
"The girls want to learn more," said Jeratowski. "They are working hard and are willing to try new things. The desire to win is there; they are looking for the season to begin."
The Lady Raiders finished with an outstanding 20-6 overall record in 2012 and lost just two players due to graduation: BreeAna Olson and Taylor Stratton.
"We have great leaders in the three seniors, and we have some power hitters," Jeratowski said. This combination will be the strengths for O-R-R, she added.
According to Jeratowski, to fill the roster, she will need to bring younger players up to the varsity. The lack of numbers is her major concern.
"We will have to use younger players to fill the junior varsity and varsity roster," she said.
O-R-R has three seniors, three juniors, two sophomores and nine freshmen out for the team.
"We need to stay healthy during the season," Jeratowski said. "Beating the heat has been a struggle this week for the Lady Raiders."
The Lady Raiders play in a very competitive Dakota Valley Conference, and Jeratowski tabs Arlington as the team to beat in the conference.
O-R-R opens the season against Dell Rapids St. Mary on Tuesday in Rutland.
"I am not too familiar with them," she said, "but they will not know much about us, either."
Assisting Jeratowski are Megan Powell and Kelsey Smith.
