Elks down Raiders in opening contest

The Elkton-Lake Benton Elks were too much for the Oldham-Ramona-Rutland Raiders in gridiron action on Friday night at Rutland. The Elks raced to a 52-14 win in the season's first game for both teams.|
Behind the passing of Trevan Farnham to Heath Schindler, the Elks built a 13-0 lead in the opening period, when they teamed up for 39- and 12-yard scoring strikes.
The Elks added two touchdown runs in the second period. Farnham scored on a 35-yard scamper and Walker Sik scored on a 55-yard run to give the Elks a 27-0 halftime lead.
Oldham-Ramona-Rutland got on the board in the third period. Dustin Riedel scored on a three-yard run as the Raiders trailed 27-6.
Elkton-Lake Benton tacked on two scoring runs in the third period. Schindler scored on a 70-yard run and later Farnham scored on a two-yard plunge.
Nathan Krog scored on a five-yard scamper early in the fourth quarter.
Riedel scored his second touchdown on a 10-yard run late in the game; with the two-point conversion by Cole Brown, the score read 46-14.
Alex Trautman scored the game's last touchdown on a 54-yard run.
Riedel ended the game with 191 yards on 28 carries. Nick Skyberg rushed for 55 yards on 11 attempts and Jacob Hegdahl had 54 yards rushing on eight carries.
Skyberg completed 1-of-5 passes for 10 yards. Brown caught the only pass for the Raiders.
Riedel had three solo tackles and six assists while Skyberg had five solo tackles and six assists. Justin Tolley had an interception for the Raiders.
O-R-R (0-1) will go to Arlington on Friday for a 7 p.m. contest.
