A Friday afternoon accident caused by a deer left a car rolled over in a ditch about three miles south of Madison. Daniel Coomes, 28, of Winfred was driving alone in a 2000 Chevrolet Camaro south on 454th Ave. at about 4:30 p.m. Coomes told the Lake County Sheriff's Department that he was driving at about 55 mph when a deer jumped out of the west ditch onto the roadway. He swerved to avoid the deer, lost control of the Camaro, and rolled into the west ditch. Coomes received a minor head injury, but he declined ambulance transport for a medical check. The deer died due to the collision. Coomes' vehicle was totaled by the accident.
