Area residents should brace for next winter storm
By ELISA SAND, Staff Reporter

Area residents should brace for potentially hazardous weather conditions.

Emergency Management Director Don Thomson is keeping a close watch on the next weather system that could bring rain before it changes to snow.

In a weather alert sent by e-mail, Thomson warns that weather conditions this weekend could mean rapidly changing weather conditions.

While the current system is tracking south of Lake County, Thomson said the system has been moving farther north and could impact Lake County.

With temperatures forecasted in the mid-30s on Friday and low 30s on Saturday, Thomson said the storm has the potential to bring a mix of ice and snow that accumulates on power lines.

Those traveling should monitor road conditions and check the weather conditions for their destinations and inform others of travel plans.

Items to bring should include a vehicle emergency kit, a full tank of gas, a charged cell phone and a weather radio or a smart phone app that provides weather-related alerts.
