01/08/2013 School bus, car collide By CHUCK CLEMENT, Staff Reporter The Madison Police Department responded to a car-school bus accident that occurred Monday morning in the eastern part of the city. At about 8 a.m., one of the buses operated by the Madison Central School District stopped on N.E. 3rd St. near Division Ave. for a student to board the vehicle. The bus driver, Franklin Guenther, reported that the stop lights used to halt traffic were activated. During the stop, the school bus was rear-ended by a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville driven by Brady Meinerts, 18, of Wentworth. Meinerts told the police that he was distracted while he had adjusted the car radio. The school bus had 22 occupants, and Meinerts was driving alone. In the accident report, Meinerts was driving 25 mph in a 30 mph zone. Damages to the Pontiac were estimated at $4,500, and the damages to the school bus were estimated at $200. Meinerts also received a citation for careless driving.
