City approves mutual aid between police, sheriff's office
By: CHUCK CLEMENT, Staff Reporter

The Madison City Commission gave its approval on Monday to a joint powers agreement for the city police department and the Lake County Sheriff's Office that will authorize assistance between the two local agencies.

The agreement allows the officers in the police department, the county sheriff, sheriff's deputies, or emergency dispatchers to summon the aid of officers with the other entity in the course of official duties. When an officer is summoned he or she will become "a duly authorized and empowered law enforcement officer of the Requesting Entity."

The Lake County Commission will consider giving its approval to the agreement on Tuesday.
