County selects three finalists for open seat
By ELISA SAND, Staff Reporter

Lake County Commissioners will interview three finalists for a county commission seat in open session on March 5.

Commissioners held preliminary interviews in closed session on Tuesday with 12 Lake County residents who submitted letters of interest for the open seat. Initially 14 letters were submitted, but two withdrew their names prior to the interviews.

Finalists selected Tuesday are Ron Golden, Jerry Johnson and Craig Johannsen.

Golden is a land management supervisor for East River Electric Power Cooperative. He is also a member of the county's GIS committee and has been a member of the city planning and zoning board for the past four years.

Johnson is currently co-owner of B&G Transportation. He previously served two terms as a Madison City Commissioner from 2002-08. During that time, he was also interim mayor from October 2006 until the election in April 2007.

Johannsen is a retired farmer with 40 years of experience in Lake County. He is a past member of the Lake County Commission who was appointed in 1999 to fill a two-year term vacated by Harold Minnaert, who died shortly after his election. Johannsen served on the county commission through 2008. He is currently on the board of directors for the Lake County Conservation District, sits on the county's planning and zoning board and is the county's Vermillion River liaison.
