03/11/2013 Madison School Board hears reports on parking, activity bus By: CHUCK CLEMENT, Staff Reporter The Madison School Board heard reports on Monday night from two committees that met to review the towing of some student vehicles from the Madison High School parking lot in early February and to consider mechanical repairs to the school district's activity bus. Board member Jennie Thompson provided a report on the student parking issue. The committee met and reviewed an incident in which an administrator decided to tow several cars from the parking lot because it was determined that they were impeding traffic. The committee members also reviewed the high school's policy on student parking. No recommendations were made by the committee members. Current plans have the committee members meeting a second time to work on a recommendation. Mitchell Brooks, school district business manager, described the mechanical repairs recommended for the district's activity bus after mechanics inspected the vehicle's diesel engine and transmission. The bus was checked out after the engine started using large amounts of oil. The committee members have recommended replacing the old transmission with an overhauled transmission. Brooks said the overhauled transmission is expected to cost $4,100. Brooks said the engine work is expected to take three to four weeks for completion. The total cost for both the diesel engine and the bus transmission was estimated at about $29,000.
