Jordan Heim will receive his Eagle Scout rank in a Court of Honor ceremony Saturday at the United Methodist Church. The ceremony begins at 2 p.m.|
Heim is the son of David and Kim Heim of Madison. To earn the rank of Eagle, Heim had to complete several merit badges and a leadership project, which was a landscaping project on the west side of the United Methodist Church. All requirements for the Eagle rank must be completed before a scout's 18th birthday.
The landscaping project was completed this past fall.
"My biggest fear was that the ground would freeze," Heim said.
The landscaping project included the replacement of several plants as well as new landscaping rock. The project was completed in mid-September about the time when frost predictions were in the forecast.
"A lot had been 20 plus years old," he said.
To complete the project, some of the existing landscaping rock was used, but another five tons of rock was delivered, new edging was installed and new shrubs were planted.
Some small decorative boulders were also brought in from his grandparent's farm near White.
A scout since second-grade, Heim said he's always liked the message scouting puts out there and has seen the benefit it's had for other people.
His most memorable trip from scouts will be the trip they took to Hawaii. He was in eighth-grade at the time and paid for the trip through wreath fund-raisers.
A senior at Madison High School, Heim is set to graduate in May. He plans to attend Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa where he plans to double major in business and advertising and minor in vocal music or psychology.
Heim is an active member in show choir, marching band, concert band, concert choir, student counsel the Maroon. This past year he was also a member of FBLA.
